Back a few months ago Pip put a notice on her blog about Softies for Mirabel. This got my interest – here was something fun I could do that would make a difference
to someone out there. The idea is to handmake soft toys that can then be given
to The Mirabel Foundation
who give support to children of families that are affected by substance abuse. Over
the intervening months I’ve had numerous ideas and lots of grand plans.
Unfortunately, things got the better of me, and now the deadline for
submissions looms next week and most of those plans have not come about.
So this afternoon I’m putting my small parcel in the post so that it
arrives in Melbourne before the deadline next week. I feel like my contribution
is only small and not very sophisticated but I hope that it brings joys to some
childs life. I know my nephew would love to get his hands on one of these so I’m
hoping some other kids feel the same.
Don’t you think my hedgehogs are cute?? The one on the right in the second
picture is my favourite. I knitted them using a pattern I first saw in use at
Chalky’s World,
she in turn got the patter from Blue. Blue has made the pattern freely avaialbel for people to sell as a fundraiser but
asks that if you make enough you donate a portion to an animal charity.
There are lots of photos of more softies donated to the Softies for
Mirabel drive over here.
